Munnar, the confluence of the three mountain river systems - Mudrapuzha, Nallathani ,Kundala. Situated at 1600m above the sea level. Completely dotted with lakes, reservoirs, mountains streams, scabrous rocks, wooded valleys, wavy grass hills, this hill station offers a great variety choices at short intervals. The drive along the Munnar hills takes you through an unending sea of tea plantations, signs of human life itself is a rare sight apart from similarly attired plantation workers. The unending dominance of the tea plantations and the mountain flower Neelakkurinji that bloom once in 12 years are both synonymous landmarks of Munnar. The mountains known as Kannandevan Hills got its identify from a former hill tribe Zamindar who ruled five villages around Munnar called Anchunadu. A Britisher by the name Muntro was the first planter who bought 227 acres of forest area from the Travancore Maha Raja in 1887 to start the first ever tea producing company in Munnar. Tata - Kannandevan, Harissons Malayalam and Kulukkumala are the major tea producing companies owing the majority of the wide spread tea estates.

The things to do and see at Munnar are innumerable. Munnar is perfect for long walks and trekking with its rolling hills, lush mountains and a wonderful view of tea, coffee and cardamom plantations. Anamudi the highest peak in South india, Eravikulam Rajamalai Wildlife Sanctuary. Mattupetty Indo - Swiss Dairy project, Devikulam Hill Station, Kolagumala the worlds highest tea growing area, Kundala Dam, Top Station are just some of the wonderful must see sights at Munnar.
